JUDDO STORY
I'm a retired graphic designer, musician, fashion retailer. I am now an artist with Parkinson's. I live in West Cork, Ireland and I paint guitars. I would find life very difficult without music and art and I am a fan of the popular song . . . the genre doesn’t really matter . . . In ireland we have produced absolutely wonderful songs.
My guitar art started because, (before I drop off my perch), I wanted to give a painted guitar to a few artists (who are still with us), as a thank-you for particular songs that really meant something to me: Paul Brady for ‘The Island’, Declan O’Rourke for ‘Galileo’, The Edge (U2) for ‘One’, Eric Clapton for ‘My Father’s Eyes’ Beth Nielsen Chapman for ‘Sand and Water’, Sting for ‘Fields of Gold’, John Mayer for ‘Stop This Train’, etc.,

I prefer acrylic pens to brushes, and I’m afraid I’m not really inspired by a blank canvas, but I can think of many different layouts when presented with a guitar, or a ukulele or a mandolin.
I started sourcing the guitars online, usually battered old acoustic models to start with, but now I now include electric guitars as the shapes are so iconic. I have always loved typography and I would find it difficult not to include some text or graffiti that is sympathetic to the image.

I work exclusively in acrylic and prepare my initial images in Photoshop and Illustrator before transferring to the guitar. Each guitar takes as long as it takes . . . I’m not in any rush . . . and I am, unfortunately, a bit physically challenged with the Parkinson’s, so I make a good many mistakes . . . but I like the mistakes . . . I tend to keep them as they usually lead to something more interesting than the original concept.

I was born in England to an Irish mother and an English father, I have a German surname, I got my education in England but I lived and worked all my adult life in Ireland, I fell in love with an Irish girl, my siblings are English, my children are Irish, my grandchildren are black and white . . . (which is wholly appropriate as I am a Newcastle United supporter) . . . they are also English and Irish . . . so I tend to think of myself as neither (or both) . . . it just gets too complicated . . . I don’t have an identity crisis, I just prefer to think of myself as an ‘Ishman’ . . . that’s a mixture of everything I like about the different cultures on these islands.
I will, in time, be offering ‘IshMan’ and ‘IshWoman’ T-Shirts!
